“Many That Harden Their Hearts”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The Holy Spirit carries the word of God “unto” our hearts—not “into” our hearts (see 2 Nephi 33:1). We are to do our part in allowing the word to penetrate “into” our hearts. That means have a heart softened and prepared to yield to the Spirit and to God. We really are an expression of the condition of our hearts. We think and act according to our hearts (see Proverbs 23:7). As we become even as He is, we find that it is our heart that is changing. That is why Alma asked the question, “Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?” (Alma 5:14) How soft are our hearts? Are we easily entreated? (See Alma 7:23.) Do we yield our hearts to the enticings of the Holy Spirit (see Mosiah 3:19) and to God (see Helaman 3:35)—and thus receive the blessings of doing so?
