When a Latter-day Saint speaks by the power of the Holy Ghost, the power of the Holy Ghost carries the truth of the message to others’ hearts. There are many who harden their hearts against the Holy Spirit, that it has no place in them, but even so we continue to work and pray continually for them, pleading that our efforts will be honored and will benefit them.
Elder David A. Bednar pointed out something important in the wording of Nephi’s teaching: “Please notice how the power of the Spirit carries the message unto but not necessarily into the heart. A teacher can explain, demonstrate, persuade, and testify, and do so with great spiritual power and effectiveness. Ultimately, however, the content of a message and the witness of the Holy Ghost penetrate into the heart only if a receiver allows them to enter.” 105
