“Wherefore, All Things Which Have Been Revealed”

Brant Gardner

Text: Usually in the Book of Mormon “wherefore” is a causative conjunction, joining two clauses in which the second is caused by the first. Here, the antecedent of “wherefore” cannot be the preceding verse or verses (the quotation from Isaiah) because the reversal of the order it describes from earthly contention to heavenly peace does not cause the revelation of “all things.” The Messiah’s reign causes both the revelation and the reversal of the natural order.

The antecedent of “wherefore,” then, is not a specific verse but this entire section from the beginning to chapter 25 to the present verse that interweaves Isaiah texts with Nephi’s prophecy. It is the Messiah’s coming in glory at the world’s end that will cause the revelation of all things.
