Nephi’s aside comments on the final judgment predicted by Isaiah. There is little real difference between the two statements, except that Nephi more explicitly identifies the “meek of the earth” in Isaiah to “his [Yahweh’s] people” in verse 10. The wicked will be destroyed because they oppose the meek/covenant people. Although Nephi adds “by fire,” he is simply reiterating the theme of the cleansing fire associated with the Messiah’s triumphant arrival, also part of the Isaianic predictions (Isa. 5:24, 9:5, 10:16–17).
