Nephi saw Lucifer using two different approaches to gain power and defeat God's plan for human happiness. One approach was to get the wicked practices of Satan raging in the lives and hearts of as many people as possible. His other approach was to pacify the followers of God's plan of salvation by lulling them to sleep with a sense of carnal security. The idea was to make them think they can relax because "all is well in Zion, all is well."
