“They Have All Gone Astray Save It Be a Few Who Are the Humble Followers of Christ”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

In describing one of how remarkable and wonderful occasions in Nephite history where the Saints of God cared as much for their neighbors as for themselves, Mormon wrote:

“And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely” (Alma 1:27).

“Thou shalt not be proud in thy heart,” the Lord said to the Latter-day Saints. “Let all thy garments be plain, and their beauty the beauty of the work of thine own hands; and let all things be done in cleanliness before me.” (D&C 42:40-41.)
