“They Rob the Poor Because of Their Fine Clothing”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

A person who becomes more concerned with his manner of dress, and particularly with its costliness, than with his manner of life will yet know a day when the nakedness of his deeds and the emptiness of his soul will be exposed. Priestcraft spawns its own fashions and dons it own robes.

It seeks to hide its spiritual poverty beneath worldly wealth (see 1 Nephi 13:6-9). Artificial awe and superficial splendor are offered in lieu of quiet peace and the soothing brilliance of the light of heaven.
