“They Have All Gone out of the Way”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
See Joseph Smith History 1:19; Jacob 5:32. Those who have “gone out of the way” are those who have strayed from the Lord himself, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (see John 14:6). The way of life and salvation is “the way of holiness,” a “strait and narrow” way; the way of death and destruction is wide and winding and ever accommodating (see 3 Nephi 14:13-14; 3 Nephi 27:33). “Strait is the gate, and narrow the way that leadeth unto the exaltation and continuation of the lives [that is, eternal life, the continuation of the family unit in eternity], and few there be that find it, because ye receive me not in the world, neither do ye know me” (D&C 132:22).
