“A Fruitful Field”

Brant Gardner

Reference: These two verses closely follow Isaiah 29:17–18: “But behold, saith the Lord of Hosts: I will show unto the children of men that it is Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest.? And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.”

In both Isaiah and Nephi, the characterization of “Lebanon” as a “fruitful field” locates this event in the last days and restates Nephi’s vision that the Book of Mormon will come forth in the same general time frame.
