“Suffer the Laborer in Zion to Perish”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Those who are genuinely dedicated to the welfare of Zion will seek the greatest gift of God, the gift of charity, “which charity is love.” Without charity a person is nothing. With charity, we will never “suffer the laborer in Zion to perish” but will constantly be watching for the less fortunate who need help.

But the Lord extends a warning about motives to anyone who professes to work for the cause of Zion: “The laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish.” Of course there are those in God’s kingdom who do receive money for their labors, but if their motive is to get rich, working to accumulate wealth instead of focusing on building the kingdom of God, they and their money will perish.
