“Preach Up Unto Themselves Their Own Wisdom”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Those who preach “up unto themselves” are not unlike those who pray unto themselves (See Luke 18:11): neither category has God as the object of their devotion and neither will receive reward of him for their actions. Those who “preach up unto themselves” desire to be heard of men and are more concerned with the outward but fleeting plaudits than the unseen but everlasting compensation of the great Judge.
