“They Shall Write the Things Which Shall Be Done Among Them”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

Continuing his prophetic interpretation, Nephi likens Isaiah's prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:1-4) to the destruction of his own nation. He then prophesies of the preservation of the testimony of its prophets to speak forth from the dust to a remnant of his people in the last days.

Isaiah 29 is, “as with all words of scripture, variously understood and interpreted by the uninspired commentators of the world. But in the providences of the Lord, Nephi, a prophet like unto Isaiah, has given us an interpreting paraphrase of this marvelous chapter, doing so because it deals with his own people and with the scriptural records preserved by them.

Nephi's words, coupled with some other revealed truths that have come forth in this dispensation, enable us to catch the vision of what Israel's ancient seer foretold pertaining to the Lehite civilization and to the great day of restoration in which we live. ” (New Witness, p. 430.)
