“The Lord God Will Give Unto Him Power”

Brant Gardner

Nephi has been examining the future, first of the Jews, then of his own people as participants in the blessings and redemption of the Jews. His vision then moves to the future of the Gentiles, who must also come to know Jesus as the Christ. Nephi uses this requirement for the Gentiles as a literary device that allows him to move from Israel’s future to that of the Gentiles’ relationship to Christ.

Narrative: In Nephi’s original version of this revelation, the description of the last days comes as Nephi describes seeing John and John’s vision (1 Ne. 14:20–29).

Second Witness: Analytical & Contextual Commentary on the Book of Mormon, Vol. 2
