“The Spirit of the Lord Will Not Always Strive with Man”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

When we are prideful and yield ourselves to the enticements of the devil, we lose the Spirit. The expression concerning the Spirit of the Lord not always striving with man is encountered from the beginning of time: “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years” (Genesis 6:3). Besides the reference from 2 Nephi 26:11, the Book of Mormon provides an additional passage of this kind (see Ether 2:15), and latter-day scriptures also reconfirm this doctrine (see D&C 1:33; Moses 8:17). The application of this warning in our lives will enable us to take every action that will ensure our being able to enjoy the Spirit throughout our mortal days.
