This verse should be contrasted to verse 25. In particular, Nephi is making a contrast between keeping the law for the sake of the commandments, but looking to Christ for salvation. This is the theme reiterated in this verse. While the Nephites keep the commandments of the law, their hope in salvation comes through Christ, and therefore he is the subject of their teachings. The reference to the children in this verse is the complement to verse 23’s indication that they labor diligently to write so that their children might be convinced of Christ.
