Hard for Many of My People to Understand; I Write Unto My People

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

After recording many chapters of Isaiah on the small plates for his posterity, Nephi comments on the selected quotations. This is among the most insightful explanations of the message of Isaiah available from any source. As an introduction, Nephi recaptures the essence of his Isaiah citations in one phrase: “that they may know the judgments of God, that they come upon all nations, according to the word which he hath spoken” (verse 3). Having, through the grace and kindness of God, escaped with his family from the predicted destruction of Jerusalem, Nephi learns firsthand the utter certitude of God’s word with respect to the impending judgments that must come upon the generations of the wicked should they reject the warnings of Isaiah and the other prophets.
