“The Aspirations of Satan”

Isaiah now prophesies the devil’s fall from earth to the spirit prison as the millennium is ushered in (v. 15), and notes that those who inhabit the spirit prison will be astonished (v. 16). Satan, who had such a great influence upon the kingdoms of the earth, is now powerless and unable to do anything for those who are prisoners. As Mormon abridged the records of the Nephites, he warned “those who perverteth the ways of the Lord … that the devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell” (Alma 30:60). The house of the prisoners will not be opened (v. 17) until “the thousand years are expired” (Revelation 20:7).
