“From the Hard Bondage Wherein Thou Wast Made to Serve”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

“It shall come to pass in that day” (a change from Isaiah in the King James Version, which reads “the day”). “Hard bondage” may be literal, meaning the servitude of the Babylonian captivity (586–538 b.c.), but may also refer to the captivity and the chains with which we shackle ourselves when we serve sin. This kind of salvation, deliverance from sin, far exceeds the deliverance from captivity in ancient Egypt or Babylon.
