“The Noise of the Multitude”

Brant Gardner

Yahweh’s army returns the enemy’s “tumultuous noise” with its own shout. When battle is joined, the only result will be Yahweh’s victory. Given Isaiah’s tendency toward dualistic imagery, he is communicating not only temporal victory over Israel’s enemies, but also the ultimate victory of the triumphant Messiah.
