“God Is My Salvation”

Brant Gardner

2 Nephi 22 corresponds to Isaiah 12. It continues the theme of chapter 21, and the two should be read as a single unit, as they are presented in the 1830 edition. This verse does not introduce a new subject but continues the millennialism of “that day.”

In the context of the Messiah’s triumphal millennial reign, the personified house of Israel speaks, acknowledging God’s justice and the righteousness of his past anger. Israel then gives thanks for its miraculous gathering and protection, at last giving God the praise and worship that it has so long withheld.

Literature: 2 Nephi 22/Isaiah 12 contains Israel’s song of praise to Yahweh in two sections (vv. 1–3 and 4–6), each introduced with “and in that day thou shalt say.”
