“To Whom Will Ye Flee for Help”

Brant Gardner

Yahweh addresses the rulers who have adopted worldly ways. Where will they turn when destruction comes—ironically through these same worldly nations? Yahweh underlines the foolishness of the choice they have made.

The NIV translates the last two questions in this verse as: “to whom will you flee for help? and where will you leave your children?” Blenkinsopp notes, however, that “riches” is a better translation than the NIV’s “children.” The reading he gives is: “Where will you leave your belongings?”
