This verse is unquestionably Messianic. No historical kingdom has ever had “no end” to its increase or peace. The kingdoms contemporary with Isaiah’s prophecy especially could not meet these conditions. These possibilities are apocalyptic, not temporal. Likewise, the judgment that will flow from that kingdom is millennial. No historical polity could possibly fulfill this prophecy, and few could even approach it.
