“That Have Familiar Spirits and Unto Wizards That Peep and Mutter”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Seeking God was commendable, of course, but not through diabolical media. In times of crisis, certain men of Judah were advocating turning to soothsayers and diviners for answers and help, rather than to the Lord’s prophets. There are “witches of Endor” in all ages—those who suppose they can approach God through spiritualism instead of spirituality.

“For the living to hear from the dead?” may also be rendered, “Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?” Should we not turn to the Lord’s prophets?
