These Messianic pronouncements give a preview of the Lord’s ministry. He will indeed be a stumbling block for all who will not accept Him as the Messiah but remain calcified in empty rituals. His disciples will instead follow His law and keep his testimonies (i.e., commandments—see 2 Chronicles 34:31; Psalm 25:10; 78:56; 119:22, 168).
