“It Shall Not Stand”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Prophecy:Within sixty-five years, the northern tribes of Israel would be scattered.

Fulfillment: By 733–32 b.c., northeast Israel and Transjordanian Israel were exiled; by 722–21 b.c., the rest of Israel was exiled to Assyria and even scattered beyond there (what we often call the “lost ten tribes”). This twelve-year period was the time when the Galilee region of the Holy Land was cleaned out by the Assyrians. Most of Israel was taken away, and foreign populations were imported. This is significant because of the Messianic prophecy following in 2 Nephi 19 (Isaiah 9):1–3, which describes the religious “darkness” that engulfed the region for a long time.
