“Go Forth Now to Meet Ahaz, Thou and Shearjashub Thy Son”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

“Shearjashub” means “the remnant shall return,” which was a prophecy at Isaiah’s call; see Isaiah 6:13. This is a familiar motif throughout Isaiah: despite the forthcoming exile, a remnant would return to the land to accomplish the Lord’s purposes (see, for example, Isaiah 10:20–22; 2 Nephi 20: 20–22).

“The end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field” meant either at the Gihon Spring or to the south near the one-time spring called En-rogel (now a well). 48 The fuller needed water for his work of cleaning and whitening cloth.
