Whom Shall I Send? Here Am I; Send Me.

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

These words are reminiscent of the defining event in the premortal existence where the Savior is chosen to be the Redeemer according the plan of the Father: “And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first” (Abraham 3:27). Isaiah follows the pattern set by the Son of God, in that he is a willing servant of the Lord, committed to following the principles of truth and light. As an application of this principle, we should take care (1) that we are accepting of the will of the Lord in regard to our various callings and assignments in the kingdom, and (2) that we perform our labors in keeping with the will of the Lord and His pattern of righteousness, rather than succumbing to the prideful and usurping pattern of Lucifer, who wanted to retain God’s honor unto himself.
