“Wo Is Unto Me! for I Am Undone”

W. Cleon Skousen

In this chapter Isaiah tells how he received his calling as a prophet of God.

Here Isaiah, like father Lehi, finds himself in the divine mansions of heaven, in the very presence of God. But it was a belief of the Jews that if a person came into the presence of God unworthily he would die. Isaiah felt that this applies to him. He considers himself a man of unclean lips, speaking from an unclean heart. But then here is what happened:

“Then flew one of the seraphim unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar; And he laid it upon my mouth, and said: Lo, this has touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said: Here am I; send me.”
