The last warning of this chapter is, alcohol related but it also seems to fit the false and misleading advertising of our day. Famous athletes, movie stars, and other celebrities are paid to endorse products that are harmful and lead people into sin (vv. 22–23). When Assyria came, those who despised the word (warnings) of the Holy One of Israel were destroyed as if by fire (v. 24–25). However, the warnings are also extended to the latter days, “his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still” (v. 25). All of these sins threaten our societies today. Before the Second Coming, the Lord will gather the righteous from the wicked unto Zion and Jerusalem, and there will be another destruction of the wicked.
