These verses describe the ills in society. The religious establishment must have considered Isaiah’s prophecy as rank heresy, and the political establishment, treason. But Isaiah spoke the truth, and the truth was painful—to him as well as to the people.
Verse 8: greed in acquisition of real estate, especially the wealthy taking from the poor
Verse 9: desolated lands and properties
Verse 10: unproductive lands and properties
Verse 11: drunkenness, riotous living
Verse 12: musical revelry (compare Amos 6:5–6; Isaiah 24:8–9)
