Resultant curses are listed: the protective hedges and walls around his vineyard are broken down and removed, and thorns and thistles replace them. The clouds will release no rain upon the land. The ancients knew that rain came not from the sky but from heaven; spiritual rain was revelation, necessary to keep them spiritually alive (compare Deuteronomy 11:8–17).
