Literary analysis: While not formatted in a list, verses 18-23 are best read as lists of items. Each of these things is an example of the ostentation noted in verse 16. The literary function of the list is to compile complementary examples that by their number also indicates the excess. Thus the items are important not simply as specifics, but as a class of items. The repetition of the number of items from this class emphasizes the excessive nature.
