“They Who Lead Thee Cause Thee to Err”

Brant Gardner

Verses 12–14 parallel verse 4 in discussing the reversal of rule, but have a different context. Isaiah is here referring to the current leadership of Jerusalem and Judah: “they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.” Isaiah is not describing a future condition but a present one. He applies the image of children and women (symbolizing ineptness) to describe the failure of proper leadership.
