Contrary to some skeptics, Joseph Smith was not the only person to see the gold plates from which he translated the Book of Mormon. Eleven others bore witness that they saw the plates, and the honesty and consistency of these men is evident in surviving documents written by or about them (see Echoes, 203–210).
