“Jacob Spake Many More Things”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
The scriptures do not contain detailed doctrinal explanations or extensive doctrinal treatises. They do not purport to represent more than a fragment of what the prophets and the Savior taught. For instance, that which we have in the New Testament from the lips of the Savior can be audibly quoted with ease in a half an how. Surely the represents only a fraction of the teachings of the Master. The scriptures announce and summarize the principles of salvation. They do not negate the need for living prophets and the spirit of revelation to amplify their testimony and doctrines.
