“I Will Afflict Thy Seed By… the Gentiles”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

In his dream, Nephi saw a great host of Gentiles upon the land of promise. He then said, “I beheld the wrath of God, that it was upon the seed of my brethren; and they were scattered before the Gentiles and were smitten” (1 Nephi 13:14).

Jacob writes that after the seed of Lehi have been afflicted by the Gentiles, the Lord will soften the hearts of the Gentiles and they will become as a father to the Lamanites. At that time many among the Gentiles will be touched by the Spirit and will be “numbered among the house of Israel,” meaning they will be brought into the Church. Thus the land of the Americas has been consecrated or set apart by the Lord to be a land choice above all others, to become a land upon which all men worship the true and living God.
