In this verse the Lord himself gave an order to the gathering with the words “when … they shall believe in me” followed by “then … they shall be restored … unto the lands of their inheritance.” The resurrected Savior taught the same order to those in the promised land (see 3 Nephi 20:30–33). Elder Bruce R. McConkie said: “The present assembling of people of Jewish ancestry into the Palestinian nation of Israel is not the scriptural gathering of Israel or of Judah. … A political gathering is not a spiritual gathering. … No one is ever gathered with Israel until they accept the Crucified One” (New Witness, 519, 564).
