“Carnally-minded ... Spiritually-minded”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

The struggle of Lucifer for supremacy on earth is sometimes manifested in the prevalence of agnosticism, atheism, or other philosophies of doubt or infidelity; but frequently it appears in the substitution of empty ceremonies for the active spiritual life; materialistic performances for the actual communion of the soul with heaven. Then religion is likely to become an instrument for the furtherance of ambition, power, social recognition, wealth, or even gross indulgence. It becomes a "carnal" religion and an asset of the "carnally-minded." Hence we are told that to be spiritually-minded is to have life eternal, while the opposite is death.
