“To Be Learned Is Good If They Hearken Unto the Counsels of God”

Jana Reiss

In Mormonism, knowledge is upheld as a great good, and intelligence is considered the “glory of God” (Doctrine and Covenants 93). However, the Book of Mormon counsels repeatedly against vain pride and people who feel themselves elevated above others simply because they are educated. The main thing, the book teaches, is for knowledge to bring a person closer to humility and to God’s love. This is true wisdom.
