God is merciful, as evidenced by his delivering his Saints from the grasp of three awful monsters: the devil, death, and hell (on “endless torment,” see D&C 19:6–12; 138:59). In one sense, endless punishment or endless torment is endless because it is God’s punishment and he is endless.
