“On Thy Strength, O Zion”

K. Douglas Bassett

(Isa. 52:1–2; D&C 113:8; 2 Ne. 9:1–3; refer in this text to 3 Ne. 20:36 & 3 Ne. 22:2 )

The Book of Mormon, in 2 Nephi 8, combines the first two verses of Isaiah 52 with the entirety of Isaiah 51. Isaiah 52:1–2 is quoted or paraphrased in three places in the Book of Mormon: by Jacob in 2 Nephi 8:24–25, by the Savior in 3 Nephi 20:36–37, and by Moroni in Moroni 10:31. Jesus explained that the fulfillment of these verses would come after the Jews were gathered to Jerusalem in the last days.

Never has the Church had the opportunity and the challenge which it faces today. Now is the time for us to arise and shine as a people (D&C 115:5), to put on our beautiful garments (2 Ne. 8:24), to demonstrate to the world the fruits of the gospel, and to proclaim the standards which the Lord has revealed for the blessings of His children.
