Jacob follows the example of his brother Nephi by citing words from Isaiah as found in the brass plates. Jacob uses the same expression—“liken”—that his brother has used earlier when exhorting his people to apply the scriptures to their own situations and conditions (see 1 Nephi 19:23–24).
