Nephi Caused His People ... to Labor with Their Hands

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

This may, perhaps, be thought strange in our machine age. But, after all, the human hand is still the most efficient tool in existence, if beauty and durability of workmanship are desired. For speed and mass-production, machinery has the advantage, but in other respects the old masterpieces, mostly "handmade," are unsurpassed. It is a moot point, too, whether people would not be better off with fewer machines and more employment for willing laborers, trained to do the world's work. Every honest working man is a genuine nobleman. Remember the word of our Lord: "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." (John 5:17) Somebody has well said: "As it is the property of fire to burn, of snow to chill, so of God to work." And we are his children.
