“The People of Nephi”

Brant Gardner

Naming places for members of their party apparently continues the nomadic tradition reflected in Lehi’s naming a river for Laman and a valley for Lemuel (2 Ne. 2:8, 14). Coming to a new locale for their new home, they designated it by Nephi’s name. While Lehi had named the river and valley out of hope, this land was much more likely named out of respect.
