“Prophecies”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Nephi resumed writing, giving us an additional, superlative remark about ancient Joseph: “The prophecies which he wrote, there are not many greater.” Gospel scholar Daniel H. Ludlow commented in reference to the papyrus manuscripts the Prophet Joseph Smith had acquired from the catacombs of Egypt, which contained writings from both Abraham and Joseph: “Evidently some of the writings of Joseph are still in existence but have not been published to the world… . Evidently the record of Joseph was translated by the Prophet, but perhaps the reason it was not published was because the great prophecies therein were ‘too great’ for the people of this day.” 6 Prophecies of Joseph were also inscribed on the plates of brass, and someday we will have them (1 Nephi 5:18).
