Extensive parallels can be drawn between Joseph of Egypt and Joseph Smith (see Gospel Symbolism, pp. 38-43). Let it suffice for our purpose to say that as the ancient Joseph gathered his family in Egypt and saved them from the famine that then covered the earth, so the latter-day Joseph served also as a savior to the house of Israel, gathering them together that they might be given the food of everlasting life.
