“A Choice Seer Unto the Fruit of My Loins”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

Joseph of Egypt also saw in vision the work and labors of the Prophet Joseph Smith. A knowledge of Joseph Smith and his role as the great prophet of the Restoration was had by many of the ancient prophets, but to none was it known in greater detail than to his progenitor, Jacob’s son Joseph. Here the latter-day Joseph was referred to as a “choice seer” unto the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. One characteristic of a seer is his ability to see and know the past.

No prophet in earth’s history has done more to restore a knowledge of the great spiritual events of the past than Joseph Smith. Through him we have received a spiritual history of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas, along with revealed histories from the dispensations of Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and restored texts from the pen of John the Baptist and John the Revelator, representing the meridian of time. (See the books of Moses and Abraham; also D&C 7; D&C 93:6-18.) Indeed, to our knowledge no prophet has penned more scripture than Joseph Smith.
