“Great Were the Covenants of the Lord Which He Made Unto Joseph”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

Joseph assured his family that this branch that was broken off and hid from the knowledge of those in the Old World would be highly favored of the Lord. He saw that the Messiah would be manifest to them in the last days “in the Spirit of power” and that they would be brought “out of darkness into light; out of hidden darkness, and out of captivity unto freedom” (JST, Genesis 50:25).

We would understand that promise to include both political and religious freedom, and that the descendants of Joseph as found in the Americas would join the Church in great numbers, in fulfillment of the covenants of the Lord to their ancient father.
