“All Things Which Were Created Must Have Remained in the Same State”

Brant Gardner

Lehi emphasizes his point by discussing the alternative to the transgression, a clever technique in a discourse based on opposition in all things. Having explained the choice that was made, Lehi now discusses the choice not made. Lehi notes that the conditions of the garden would have “remained in the same state in which they were… created.” God had created the conditions of the garden, and those conditions would have remained the same unless something happened to change them. Of course, that is exactly what did and, according to Lehi, should have happened.
