“A State of Probation”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Mortality is a time appointed for testing and probation, a time to prepare to meet God (see Alma 12:24). We prepare to meet God by keeping the commandments and taking upon ourselves the divine nature of Jesus Christ (see 2 Peter 1:3–10; Moroni 7:48; D&C 4). Let us remember that the work of Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ is to bring to pass our immortality and eternal life (see Moses 1:39).

In likening the words of Lehi to our own lives, we should remember that our mortal state is essentially a time to repent and keep the commandments.
